Booking

Check the calendar below for availability before requesting a performance date. Jamey books one performance per week on Saturdays. "Gene Shay Presents" shows are booked by Gene and Jamey on Fridays. We are almost fully booked for 2012.

Web Calendar

We get many requests from agencies and independent touring groups that have no local fan base or name recognition and are unable to draw a reasonable audience, therefore we only book groups that can guarantee a minimum draw. We look for openers to guarantee a 10 seat draw for a 30 minute set, co-bills to draw 20 each for one 45 minute set apeice, headliners 30 seats for a 60 minute set, and solo acts to draw 40 minimum for two 45 minute sets. We do not often have opening acts for logistical reasons. If you are a booking agent, we expect that you will not overexpose your act in this market. For example, we recommend a 2 week/20 mile lockout when routing, unless it is a big name with big draw potential. This is a serious listening room, not a bar or restaurant, so we can not afford an empty room. If you are seeking exposure in a new market, try some of the music bars in the region instead.

If you have booked a show and fail to generate good ticket sales, it is expected that you will honor your committment to perform. Our reputation is on the line as well as yours, and our audiences expect consistency. Thank you for your professionalism.

Our capacity is 60 and we love a full house. We do not have a built in audience, so it is important that you or your publicist independently publicize your show with email blasts, website announcements, street team work, press releases and newspaper advertising. If you go the extra mile to get local radio interviews, WXPN (Kim Winnick wxpndesk@xpn.org) is the major outlet for AAA/pop/rock/blues/world music and singer-songwriter genres. WRTI (Jim Cotter jim@wrti.org) is the go-to station for Jazz and classical. The local weeklies are the Philadelphia City Paper (Pat Rapa pat@citypaper.net) and Philadelphia Weekly (PW) (Liz Spikol lspikol@philadelphiaweekly.com), the Daily News (Jonathan Takiff takiffj@phillynews.com) and the Philadelphia Inquirer (Dan Deluca ddeluca@phillynews.com) are the major dailys, and the local weekly pennysaver is the City Suburban News (Leslie Swan CitySuburbanNews@mac.com). Numerous local media lists are available online. Feel free to download our promotional copy, (not updated) media list and hi res images for your publicity. We do not send press releases or use paid advertising. We have a large private mailing list that announcements are sent to. We do post all shows on www.phillyfunguide.com which is a major regional web calendar that feeds other local web calendars, like the XPN Concerts Calendar for example. Our ticketing service also posts our shows on numerous individual announcement lists.

Please contact Jamey Reilly by email for booking at info@thepsalm.org. We book for Saturday evenings only, with Friday slots reserved for Gene Shay's picks. Weeknights are not available due to low turnouts. We do not like to book more than one show per week to avoid audience dilution. As you can imagine, we are deluged with requests from around the world. Please be patient when making submissions. We are very selective and take our time when filling dates. We will contact you only if we will offer a date. Once contacted, we need full information on the individual/group appearing, press materials, one poster, and a stage plot. Please submit CD (address on home page), EPK , myspace page, website URL along with local venues played, current regional bookings with pending dates, requested dates and an estimated draw. Again, we will only contact you or your agent if offering a date. We don't need a contract to proceed unless you insist on one. We prefer to proceed on an honor basis, to show the respect and trust that has largely disappeared from the music business.

Our compensation structure is a flat 70% NAGBOR (net adjusted gross box office receipts) and 100% merchandise sales. There is no minimum guarantee. Co-bills split the 70% NAGBOR. Openers are paid a flat $50 deducted from the 70% split ($5 per head is deducted for a draw of under 10 which goes back to the headliner). The NAGBOR is calculated as the gross door receipts less the total $5 ticket rebates given to any PSALM members in attendance. Payout is made at the end of the evening by check. Typical advance online or phone ticket minimum prices are $16 (plus the $2 convenience fees charged by our independent ticketing service) or $20 at the door (which is slightly less economical than buying advance tickets). We encourage advance ticket purchases to better predict likely attendance and staffing needs. Higher ticket prices are reasonable for famous name acts, with a $20/$25 to $60/$70 typical price range.

A maximum of 4 comps are available for headliners and co-bills. The press is always free. PSALM street team members are always free.

This is an artist friendly room, and we have 100% positive feedback from our performers (and guests). We go out of our way to make your evening a showcase event of the highest caliber. so you can have fun and connect intimately with your audience. All shows are now broadcast live, and archived for later viewing, on Ustream.tv. We re-book groups based on the overall quality of the show, audience response and turnout. Our audience turnout is generally better in March, April, May, June and September, October, November, December with somewhat lighter houses during the Summer and Winter months. The PSALM Salon is an ASCAP and BMI licensed venue.
